Outdoor Game - Crocodiles & Turtles

Crocodiles and Turtles

Age: 5 years & up
Approximate Time 10 Minutes
Players 4 or more

This is a game of tag for pools that have areas of shallow water. The younger the players, you will need to play in very shallow water, older children can play in deeper water. My preference is no higher then waist-high of the shortest child.

Players draw straws (or use It & Other) to see who will be the crocodile. The other players are turtles. The crocodile goes to one corner of the pool and the turtles to the opposite.

The crocodile chases the turtles lying face down in the water, holding himself up by placing his hands on the bottom of the pool. the turtles run from the crocodile in a squatting position.

When a crocodile catches a turtle, the turtle becomes a crocodile, too, and joins in the chase of other turtles.

A turtle that successfully reaches the crocodile's corner can turn a crocodile back into a turtle. The turtle then has to return to his corner without being tagged before he can continue playing.
